• FDA issues warning on body-building supplements

  One more reason why to use SomaLife’s gHP Sport!————————–On the front page of its Business Day section, the New York Times (7/29, B1, Singer, Schmidt) reports that the FDA “warned consumers on Tuesday not to use body-building products that are sold as nutritional supplements but may contain steroids or steroidlike substances, citing reports of acute liver injury and kidney failure.” Prompted by “increased reports of medical problems in men who had used such products,” the alert named “eight specific supplements sold by a single company,” but “did not provide much clear guidance to consumers on what other products to avoid. The FDA acknowledged that it did not know how many products its warning affects. Generally, the FDA said, buyers should beware of body-building products that claim to enhance or diminish the effects of hormones like testosterone, estrogen or progestin.”The AP (7/29, Pells) notes that the warning “came five days after FDA investigators, led by Jeff Novitzky of the BALCO probe, raided the California offices of American Cellular Labs, looking for evidence the company sells steroids under the guise of a supplement.
